Tourism Dept Okays Rs 2.82-cr Action Plan for Fort Kochi

 

Kochi: The Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala, has given administrative sanction for implementing a major project to enhance infrastructure and tourist amenities at Fort Kochi at an estimated cost of Rs 2,82,08,000.  The Action Plan prepared by Kerala Tourism Infrastructure Private Limited (KTIL) in this regard was approved by the Departmental Working Group on Plan Schemes that met earlier this week.

A gateway of the western colonial powers to India, Fort Kochi is famed for its stunning scenic beauty and structures of historic significance, attracting both foreign and domestic visitors round the year.  “The Fort Kochi Action Plan is aimed at creating world class infrastructure and amenities for tourists visiting the site, which boasts many heritage structures as well,” Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas said.

Besides preserving the heritage structures of Fort Kochi, the world class features to be added as part of the project will make the visit to the site more comfortable and hassle-free, Riyas added. The works to be taken up under the project, called Action Plan for Enhancing Tourism Infrastructure at Fort Kochi, include site preparation, landscaping, laying pavements and putting up signages, creating inbuilt and street furniture, renovation of existing structures, electrical works, installation of street art and sculptures. The works will be implemented through the accredited agencies within 18 months.
